Having read Dave Greenburg’s parodies of “Goldilocks and the Three
Bears,” choose your favorite children’s story / fairy tale and refashion
it in the voice of an author studied this year. This assignment will
not only stretch you creatively, but also help you hone your analytical
skills and ability to decipher tone, style, and a host of rhetorical
devices employed (and potentially favored) by your respective authors.
You should submit a hardcopy of your story and a 1 page rationalization of your choices that illustrates an understanding of your respective author's style and literary tics at the start of class.
Please post your story by 6pm on Mon. 4/14. Labels: "Parody" and your name.

Synthesis 1
Straight from the 2008 AP English Language and Composition Exam:
Introduction
In 2001 United States Representative Jim Kolbe introduced legislation to Congress to eliminate the penny coin in most transactions. Although this legislation failed, there are still consistent calls to eliminate the penny as the smallest-denomination United States coin.
Assignment
Read the following sources (including the introductory information) carefully. Then write an essay in which you develop a position on whether or not the penny coin should be eliminated. Synthesize at least three of the sources for support.
Be sure to post your thesis statement and the sources you'd use (briefly explaining in what capacity) by 10pm on Mon. 3/31.
Feedback on at least one other post due by 10pm on Thurs. 4/3.
Label with your name and "Synthesis 1."

Faulkner Culled Poem
“Words culled with the choicest art, yet they flow with rapidity and unparalleled eloquence” (Frankenstein 16)
Premise: Certain lines in a piece of literature “speak” to the reader, and these lines express the core or universal ideas of a piece of writing. Review William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury and determine what lines are important to you. You will then “recast” these lines into a “culled poem.”
Please post your poem by 10:00am on Fri. 12/6. Labels: "Faulkner Culled Poem" and Your Name.

"Hollow Men" due 12pm on Fri. 10/11
Just to get you started thinking a bit more critically about T.S. Eliot's "The Hollow Men," consider the following Wordle:
Are you surprised by the most common words? How does this compare to your understanding of the crux of the poem? How does it differ?
Your post should have a creative title, clear thesis, and sufficient textual support. Be sure to read posts which precede yours to avoid a parallel discussion. Please keep your posts to 1-2 "normal length" paragraphs.
Post due by 12pm on Fri. 10/11.
Please "label" your post with "Hollow Men," and Your First and Last Name
